Our work in Morocco did not begin with one animal. And it was never about one problem.
When we first started looking closely at the situation, we quickly saw that behind the fate of thousands of homeless dogs and cats there was a much bigger problem. One that cannot be solved with a single rescue, a single transport, or a single fundraiser.
So we decided to work on a larger scale.
Our coordinators built connections with local activists, first in the north of Morocco, and over time our help began to reach other parts of the country too. They created a network of people who are there every single day. They are the ones who see the animals on the streets, take the calls, arrange transport to clinics, feed, treat, and act when every hour counts. Holding that network together is real work. It means answering messages late into the night, deciding which case cannot wait, and staying with an animal in spirit even from hundreds of kilometres away.
We help them keep doing it.
Thanks to your support, we fund treatment. We help buy food. We take part in spaying and neutering programmes, and in the humane model of catching an animal, carrying out the procedure, and safely returning it to the place it knows. We also support local projects, including the Hayat project, that try to change the reality for animals where the problem truly begins: on the streets.
But sometimes a bowl of food or a sterilisation is not enough.
There are animals hit by cars. Dogs that need treatment immediately. Animals so sick, injured, or weak that without a fast response they may not see the next day. That is when our team steps in with emergency help. Thanks to a group of people we stay in constant contact with, we can react to each urgent call, organise help on the spot, discuss difficult cases, and get animals into treatment.
And you can see it in the animals.
A dog dragged off the road with barely any strength left, who days later lifts his head, then stands, then eats on his own. A frightened street cat that slowly learns a human hand can be gentle. These are not small things. For that animal, it is the whole world changing.
Some of the rescued animals then begin one more journey. We look for adoptions and a chance at a new life far from the place where they were found. Sometimes that means hundreds, even thousands of kilometres between a Moroccan street and the home where they finally feel safe for the first time.
Our work in Morocco has a second side too.
For a long time we have been raising our voice about homelessness and the way animals are treated there. We strongly oppose the mass removal and killing of stray dogs. Alongside direct rescue, we want to talk about solutions that are humane and that can bring real change over time. Spaying. Neutering. Treatment. Vaccination. Education. Working together with the people on the ground. Because you do not solve homelessness by clearing animals off the streets. You have to act at the source.
That is why our help in Morocco is so wide.
Sometimes it is a paid clinic bill. Other times a bag of food, another sterilisation, or transport for an injured dog. Sometimes it is weeks of conversations and organising help for a single animal. And sometimes it is our coordinators connecting people who are hundreds of kilometres apart but who, together, can save one life.
We may be based in Poland, but part of our work happens there every single day. In the messages. The phone calls. The photos sent from the streets. The urgent alerts. The talks with clinics and activists. In decisions that sometimes have to be made in an instant.
Because helping from a distance still means being close.
Today we have people in Morocco we trust and can work with. We have contacts, experience, and a growing network of people committed to helping. And we will keep building it. Because we do not only want to react to the next desperate call. We want there to be fewer and fewer of them.
This is only possible because of you.
We have learned something in Morocco that we carry with us everywhere: no situation is too big to change, as long as enough people refuse to give up. Every healed animal, every safe adoption, every quiet win on the streets is proof of it. So we will keep going, together with you, until the day this country needs us less. And until that day comes, we will never stop.
